How to Make Traditional Steamed Banana Cake: Delicious, Chewy, and Golden

Steamed banana cake is a delicious and fragrant treat that's easy to make at home. Below is a recipe for traditional steamed banana cake, ensuring that you get a soft, chewy, golden cake with a sweet flavor.

Ingredients:

Ripe bananas: 5-7 medium-sized bananas (preferably ripe but firm)

Glutinous rice flour: 200g

All-purpose flour: 50g

Coconut milk: 200ml

Sugar: 80-100g (adjust to your taste)

Salt: a pinch

Baking powder: 1 teaspoon

Pandan extract (optional, for fragrance): a few drops

Grated coconut (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the bananas:

Peel the bananas and slice them into thin pieces (about 1 cm thick). If you prefer a smoother texture, you can mash the bananas instead of slicing them.

Make the batter:

In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour, all-purpose flour, sugar, and baking powder.

Gradually pour in the coconut milk and stir until you get a smooth batter. Add a pinch of salt and pandan extract for added fragrance (optional).

Mix the bananas:

Add the sliced bananas (or mashed bananas) into the batter and gently fold them in to ensure they’re evenly coated.

Prepare the steaming setup:

Grease a round steaming mold or a heat-resistant bowl with a bit of oil or non-stick spray.

Pour the banana batter into the mold, spreading it evenly.

Steam the cake:

Boil water in a large pot or steamer. Once the water is boiling, place the mold with the batter into the steamer.

Cover and steam the cake for about 30-40 minutes over medium heat, or until the cake turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Finish and Serve:

Let the cake cool down for a few minutes before removing it from the mold.

Optionally, sprinkle grated coconut on top for added texture and flavor.
